MCA is neither involved nor knows anything about a plot to overthrow Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his government, its president Wee Ka Siong said.
“This portal (The Vibes) news is baseless; they never even mentioned their sources,” he said.
“The portal just said that there is an attempt to overthrow the government under the leadership of Anwar.
“Show us proof on how we are involved,” he posted on Facebook today.
Wee was commenting on a report by The Vibes news portal that there were attempts to remove Anwar five months after the formation of the unity government.
Quoting sources, The Vibes reported there were those within the political sphere who were out to unseat the prime minister, a move that could trigger by-elections.
The portal also said Wee and MCA’s Tanjung Piai MP Wee Jeck Seng were among the 10 MPs who were part of the plan.
Earlier today, Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu said Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) alleged plans to topple Anwar government, as reported by The Vibes, was unfounded.
Faizal said PN’s main aim now was to focus on the six state elections to be held after June.
“Honestly, I did not hear of such plans. The allegation is baseless,” he said.
Wee said the new report must be condemned.
“How can Wee’s (Jeck Seng) and my name be mentioned? Those out there can write whatever rumours they want. But, for me, the president of MCA, I take this seriously.
“The media information should be based on facts that are checked. Their report is nonsense and baseless.”
He added that there was no logic to an attempt to overthrow the government.
