PRIME Minister Anwar Ibrahim is not wrong to host an Hari Raya open house in six states to foster closer ties with the people, Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi said.

Puad slammed Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for likening the events to an election campaign.

“According to the Kedah MB, the open houses are state election campaigns and should not be held. He also said it is a waste and it should be done in Putrajaya.

“Sanusi is afraid. What is inappropriate (about an open house)? Let others in the states also enjoy the open houses. We have always been having it in Putrajaya and not all people can attend,” he posted on Facebook today.

It was reported that Sanusi had said by holding the open houses, the federal government was going against its policy of doing away with massive events to cut costs.

He said the open house events are akin to politicking as the six states will be holding their polls after June.

Puad said the purpose of the open houses is a public relations effort to foster closer ties with the public, get to know the people and invite everyone to join in.

“That’s why all the elected representatives and MBs hold open houses.

“Maybe there is little element of politics and campaigning. What is wrong with that?

“Sanusi can also join in and stand next to the PM from morning to evening. He can greet all visitors. The more the better.”

He said Sanusi also mentioned holding open houses in all areas is a waste.

“If Sanusi wants to be frugal, then he does not need to hold an open house.” – April 24, 2023.
