THE three states under Pas’ rule are expected to dissolve their legislative assemblies in June, PAS vice-president Nik Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said.
He said the states are Kelantan, Kedah and Terengganu.
Nik Amar, who is also Kelantan deputy menteri besar, said he was informed that the three states under Pakatan Harapan – Negri Sembilan, Penang and Selangor – had also agreed to dissolve their legislative assemblies in June.
“Kelantan has already decided to dissolve the state assembly at the end of June and I was told the date for the dissolution for the six states will take place in stages, but all will be in June,” he was quoted as telling reporters by New Straits Times at Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob’s Hari Raya open house today.
Nik Amar said the state elections would be held in July.
He said PAS will defend its 37 seats in the Kelantan assembly while Bersatu will defend eight seats.
He said the seat allocation formula will be the same as that used in the general election last November.
“Under the formula, the seats won by Barisan Nasional in the last state polls will be given to Bersatu to contest,” he said.
“This was agreed to in our previous meetings. If there is any change to this, we will inform everyone.”
Nik Amar said PAS has shortlisted the candidates.
He said Ahmad, who is also Kelantan PAS commissioner, will make the final decision on the candidates.
Perikatan Nasional, of which PAS is a component, recently said it will use the Islamist party’s logo in the state elections, like it did in the November general election. – April 23, 2023.
