MUSLIM preachers from out of Malacca who wish to do missionary work (dakwah) in the state must have permission from the Melaka Islamic Religious Council.

Malacca mufti Abdul Halim Tawil said this is to ensure speakers do not sow division and discord among the local communities.

“If the speakers are from out of Malacca, we will check if they have credentials from their home state. At the same time they can apply for a preaching certificate in Malacca.

“As for Malacca preachers, we will check whether they have obtained a preaching certificate from us,” he said at the Al-Azim Mosque in Bukit Palah, Malacca today.

Halim said foreign speakers must submit an application to sermonise in advance.

“We don’t have a black or white list, but they (organisers and speakers) must be honest and responsible.”

Meanwhile, organisers bringing in out-of-state preachers to speak in Malacca must submit their applications at least two weeks ahead of the event. – Bernama, April 22, 2023.
