PETALING Jaya in Selangor is the only city in Malaysia seeing an unhealthy Air Pollution Index (API) reading as Malaysia celebrates Hari Raya today.

The Air Pollution Index Management System showed an API reading of 109 for Petaling Jaya at 10am today.

Tanjung Malim in Perak, Sandakan in Sabah, Kapit and Sarikei in Sarawak were experiencing good air at 10am today.

A reading of 0-50 is good, 51-100 (moderate), 101-200 (unhealthy), 201-300 (very unhealthy) and 300 and above (hazardous).

Since yesterday, only Seremban in Negri Sembilan and Kuala Terengganu in Terengganu have reported unhealthy air quality. The API for Seremban improved last night, however, to moderate while Kuala Terengganu continued to log unhealthy air until 1am.

Air quality is moderate in the rest of the country.

The peninsula is currently experiencing hot and smoggy weather. Last week, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said this was because of peat fires and open burning. – April 22, 2023.
