WHO urges Malaysians to self-test for Covid before visiting hometowns

THE World Health Organization (WHO) has advised Malaysians to self-test for Covid-19 self-test before visiting their hometowns for Raya. 

The health watchdog recommended bringing hand sanitiser and face masks for the holiday to prevent Covid-19 from spreading to the elderly. 

It said this in a tweet via its @WHOMalaysia account, which was retweeted by the Health Ministry (MOH).

Earlier, the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal announced Muslims in Malaysia will celebrate Raya on Saturday. 

The number of Covid-19 patient admissions to MOH hospitals per 100,000 residents was reported to have increased by 26.2% in the 15th epidemiological week from April 9 to 15 compared with the previous week. 

In a statement recently, MOH said most Covid-19 patients are from high-risk groups such as the elderly and those with comorbidities. – Bernama, April 20, 2023.
