POLICE arrested eight foreign nationals in connection with the murder of an Indian national at a workers’ hostel in the Jalan Sungai Besi industrial area in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.
All eight suspects, ages 22 to 57, were co-workers of the victim at a scrap metal yard in the industrial area.
Cheras police chief Zam Halim Jamaluddin said police received information at 6am from a medical officer at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz stating that a 43-year-old man had been brought in unconscious with multiple head injuries.
He said, according to a witness, the 37-year-old prime suspect was found drenched in blood in front of the victim’s room at the yard.
“The witness, who entered the room, found the victim lying on the floor with injuries on his face and informed the employer,” he said today.
The employer then rushed the victim to hospital but he was confirmed dead by medical staff.
Zam Halim said the employer tried to get workers tie up the suspect, but he attempted to slash his throat with a knife and was also brought to the hospital.
Following that incident, police said they detained the main suspect in the monitoring ward and they also seized an iron rod, which they believe is the murder weapon.
Zam Halim said the suspect was intoxicated during the attack but the motive for the murder is still under investigation.
“All the suspects have been remanded until April 25 to assist in investigations under section 302 of the penal code for murder,” he said.
Zam Halim urged anyone with information on the incident to contact the Cheras police hotline on 03-9284 5050/5051, the Kuala Lumpur police hotline on 03-2115 9999, or the nearest police station. – Bernama, April 20, 2023.
