PENANG Pakatan Harapan (PH) has no plans to give up any of its state seats to Barisan Nasional (BN) in the coming state polls, state PH chairman Chow Kon Yeow said.

He said BN can defend its two incumbent seats in Penang – Sungai Dua and Permatang Berangan.

Chow, who is also Penang chief minister, however, said the seats in Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) hands are open for negotiation.

There are four PN seats in the 40-seat state assembly.

“The (DAP) secretary-general has reiterated that all seat negotiations will be based on the agreed principle that all seats will go back to incumbent parties,” he was reported as saying in Malay Mail Online today.

“Based on this principle, we will not request for their (BN) seats and this should be reciprocal (that they won’t be requested for our seats),” he added.

In the 2018 elections, PH won 37 seats, when Bersatu was still part of the pact.

BN had two seats while PAS scored one seat, Penaga.

After Bersatu left the PH coalition and two PKR assemblymen were fired from the party and later joined Bersatu, four seats – Seberang Jaya, Sungai Acheh, Teluk Bahang and Bertam –fell to PN.

Pakatan and BN are now allies, working together to take on PN in the state. – April 20, 2023.
