THE Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has collected funds amounting to RM126,600 in 39 days, through the Turkey and Syria Earthquake Victims Fund, since it was launched on February 17.

The IRB said the proceeds of the collection have been channelled to the Foreign Ministry’s disaster fund recently, as a sign of support for the victims of the earthquake which hit Turkey and Syria on February 6.

“We hope this contribution can ease the burden and suffering experienced by the victims involved,” it said in a statement, adding that the fund was one of the agency’s corporate social responsibility programmes.

The earthquake and aftershocks in both countries resulted in massive destruction in the affected areas and the displacement of nearly 2.2 million people, with the death toll reaching 51,000. As many as 17.9 million people were injured and 195,400 buildings were destroyed. – Bernama, April 18, 2023.
