THE government will give an additional public holiday depending on when Hari Raya Aidilfitri starts, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said.
He said if Raya falls on Friday (April 21), the following Monday (April 24) will be made a public holiday.
“If it falls on Saturday, then Friday will be declared a public holiday,” he said in Putrajaya today.
Anwar said there would still be a four-day holiday from Friday to the following Monday regardless of when Raya begins.
The official announcement on the date of 1 Syawal 1444H for celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri will be made on Thursday, April 20, by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal.
As for Sabah and Sarawak, the prime minister said the respective state governments can declare a general holiday on Monday in adherence to the General Holiday Ordinance.
“The unity government remains committed to ensuring the welfare of the people under Malaysia Madani is taken care of in all aspects.
“It is hoped that with these various efforts and special initiatives carried out, may the celebration of Hari Raya be a successful one.” – April 18, 2023.
