KEDAH Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) expect to resolve the distribution of seats for the state elections after Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

State Umno liaison committee chairman Mahdzir Khalid said discussions would start soon.

“We are having ‘ice breaking’ among BN and PH leaders at the divisional level, where they sit together at the same table and see what our preparations are like and then decide on who will contest where,” he told a press conference in Sungai Petani yesterday.

Earlier, he was present at the 2023 Unity Round Table Conference, which was attended by BN and PH leaders at the state and divisional levels.

The meeting was to enable leaders to get to know each other and strengthen cooperation in preparation for state elections.

Meanwhile, Kedah PH chairman Mahfuz Omar said he hoped the distribution of seats could be resolved before the Kedah Unity Convention on May 20.

He said following the round table conference, BN and PH will form a Unity Leadership Council at the parliamentary or divisional level to determine the course of action to face the state elections.

Mahfuz said after the distribution of seats had been resolved, BN and PH will decide on a menteri besar candidate to be used as a “poster boy” for the elections.

“The MB candidate will be discussed after we have settled seat negotiations,” he said. – Bernama, April 18, 2023.
