POLICE have arrested five men on suspicion of assaulting, slashing and injuring a woman, and then throwing her under Kampung Sawah Banting bridge in Selangor.
Kuala Langat police chief Ahmad Ridhwan Mohd Nor Saleh said police received a tip-off from the public last Thursday at 3.25am about cries for help from under the bridge.
According to Ridhwan, the 52-year-old victim, who works as a cleaner in a local bank, was rescued by passers-by, who took her to Banting Hospital.
“The victim said the problem started when she confronted the suspects, her tenants, who she said were always making noise, regularly drank liquor and took drugs inside the house,” he said in a statement today.
Ridhwan said the victim had been beaten with a cane and cut by an unidentified sharp object, before being dumped under the bridge.
“Based on information received, a team from Kuala Langat CID arrested five men in Banting the same day, and seized a Proton Perdana car and a cane,” he said.
He also said the suspects, in their 30s, had previous convictions for drug abuse, while three of them tested positive for methamphetamine and cannabis.
“The suspects have been remanded for four days and are being investigated for causing serious injuries,” he added. – Bernama, April 17, 2023.
