Come ask the passengers themselves, Anthony Loke tells Ka Siong

TRANSPORT Minister Anthony Loke has invited his predecessor Wee Ka Siong to send passengers of a Kuala Lumpur-Tawau fixed-fare flight off on Thursday following Wee’s claim that ticket prices have shot up to over RM3,000.

Loke said the MCA president can interview the passengers about flight fares.

“I want to extend an open invitation to him (Wee) to send off passengers boarding the KL-Tawau flight on April 20,” Loke said today.

“It is RM249 for all tickets (on the flight) with 185 passengers.

“If he does not believe such a low fare, I invite him to interview each and every passenger on Thursday night,” he said.

For the past few days, the two have been at each other’s throats over flight fares to Tawau.

Wee earlier claimed Malaysia Airlines ticket prices from Kuala Lumpur to Tawau reached a whopping RM3,138 on April 20.

But Loke dismissed the claim as inaccurate, saying the RM3,138 was for a business class ticket.

He said all economy class tickets for the flight were sold out.

Loke took a swipe at Wee, telling him to learn the difference between economy and business class seats.

In response, Wee said immediate action should be taken if there is inaccurate information on flight booking apps.

“YB Anthony, I am speaking based on facts and not lies. If the information in the application is inaccurate, please take immediate action to protect users. Don’t blame me as it’s factual,” Wee said in a Facebook post.

In another Facebook post, Wee said checks done via three phones yielded the same results.

“These are three separate phones using a super app at the same time at 3.30pm today on April 16, 2023. They all show the same economy class KUL-TWU fare displaying RM3,138. So, am I still wrong?” he asked in the post, which contains a photo of three phones displaying the airfare on a booking app. – April 17, 2023.
