HUMAN Resources Minister V. Sivakumar has suspended his private secretary along with two special functions officers following their arrest by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) during an investigation into migrant worker approvals.
There has been no comment so far from the minister or his senior staff on the matter.
“Three officers were suspended by the minister with immediate effect,” a source told The Vibes, who said he had no further information on the details of the disciplinary action.
Earlier today, Sivakumar was questioned by the MACC in connection with the arrests, but one of his aides said the minister was not a suspect.
“It is only a formality. The minister is not a suspect in this case. He is also not a witness,” the aide said briefly.
It was reported that the minister arrived at MACC headquarters in Putrajaya at 10am to have his statement recorded.
Yesterday, the DAP lawmaker told reporters that MACC had yet to call him but if summoned, he would go willingly.
He also asked the public not to speculate on the matter because it is an ongoing investigation.
The Malaysian Insight has reach out to MACC Chief Commissioner Azam Baki for comment. – April 16, 2023.
