THE Malacca government opposes a christian mass-gathering that is expected to be held in the state between June 14 to 18 as it threatens racial harmony.

Chief Minister Idris Haron said the gathering would threaten race relations and he has not received any applications for the ‘Jeruselam’s Jubilee’ gathering either.

“We have been informed of the Jerusalem Jubilee gathering, which is expected to be held in Malacca,” he told reporters in Ayer Keroh today.

“For your information, the state government has not received any application, much less approve any such gatherings,” he said at the Malacca state assembly.

The gathering is organised by the Calvary Life Assembly Chinese (CLAC) – a local Christian denomination.

Posters of the event feature a giant gold menorah with the words “All Malaysian-Golden Gate Revival Convocation” emblazoned underneath in gold-coloured fonts.

PAS information chief Nasaruddin Hassan Tantawi described the planned gathering as a form of planned provocation towards the Muslim community in Malaysia.

Under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, organisers are required to notify the officer in charge of the police district (OCPD) within 10 days before the gathering date.

The law no longer requires police permits for mass gatherings. – June 5, 2017.
