HUMAN Resources Minister V. Sivakumar today denied being questioned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) after social media reported that he was going to be arrested next.
This follows MACC’s remand of two of his aides.
“I have not been called yet. I will go willingly if I am summoned,” Sivakumar told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today.
The minister urged all parties concerned to stop speculating on the case after two of his aides were recently detained by the anti-graft agency.
“The arrests were part of the investigation process (into migrant workers’ recruitment practices).
“If there is a report against a person, the MACC will probe that person. If there are valid grounds, they will be charged in court, otherwise, they will be released.
“(In this case) investigations are still in the early stage. So don’t make any conclusions. Let the investigation take its course,” said Sivakumar.
Yesterday the MACC arrested a private secretary to Sivakumar, 24 hours after an aide to the minister was detained.
It is believed the MACC’s probe is also focused on other individuals within the ministry as well as its agencies. – April 15, 2023.
