UMNO is making preparations to face six state elections, with its election machinery currently at 80% readiness.
UMNO election department chief Reezal Merican Naina Merican said he had met with all six state Umno liaison committees.
The Kepala Batas Umno division chief said Umno and Barisan Nasional remained compatible with Pakatan Harapan (PH).
“BN and PH’s compatibility forms the core of the government, both at the federal and state levels, and it will be translated through the state elections.
“We don’t want the central leadership to say one thing and the state another. So we want to make sure everything works together in the state elections as the voting patterns are now different,” he told reporters after presenting aid to 400 asnaf, elderly and orphans in Kepala Batas today.
Reezal said the formula for the state elections would be the coalition formula, with high hopes of sticking together.
This was proven in many things, including Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s willingness to conduct Isyak and Terawih prayers in Kepala Batas yesterday amid his tight schedule, Reezal said
“The Penang chief minister and his deputy also attended our programme, and it’s not a one time thing. This is an early sign of our determination to form a unity government at state level.
“From there, we can see the collaboration developing in such a short time. In 100 to 120 days, till the elections are held, we will be in a state of readiness,” he added. – Bernama, April 15, 2023.
