Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia has threatened action against three DAP lawmakers if they fail to apologise in the Dewan Rakyat over their remarks accusing him of collusion in covering up corruption scandals. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, March 19, 2018.

ADAMANT that the 1MDB issue should be heard in Parliament, Ngeh Koo Ham (DAP- Beruas) filed a motion to debate the speaker’s decision to bar any question and motion on the state investor.

He said the house should debate if the speaker’s decision is the right thing to do to increase public confidence in Parliament.

“I would like this to be debated and Parliament to decide which is the better way to enhance the prestige and people’s confidence in Parliament. I differ with what the speaker had decided by not allowing any motion and by not allowing any question,” said Ngeh.

Another motion was also filed to request for Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia to retract the warning letter given to three DAP lawmakers dated March 13.

Pandikar last week demanded that three DAP lawmakers make an open apology in the Dewan Rakyat over their remarks accusing him of collusion in covering up corruption scandals.

The three MPs – Nga Kor Ming (Taiping), Ngeh Koo Ham (Beruas) and V. Sivakumar (Batu Gajah) – had insulted him and tarnished the good name of the Dewan with their accusations, which included calls to resign for failing to uphold the truth as the speaker, Pandikar said.

“I’m giving you the opportunity to make an open apology in the house over the accusations made against the speaker.

“Failure to do so will result in stern action being taken against the Yang Berhormat,” he said in a letter to the MPs.

They trio urged Pandikar to step down after he rejected an emergency motion on the 1Malaysia Development Bhd-linked luxury yacht Equanimity and questions related to the state investor.

Nga said the motion would be filed on Monday (today) and that the speaker should let the house decide on the matter. – March 19, 2018.

  • BN complains about 1MDB being old news. The fact is if you just address the issues, it will be old news and then you can call the election. Trying to hide the issue just prolongs it...
