AMID allegations of a conflict of interest, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today promised to look into Rashdan Yusof’s appointment as Energy Commission chairman.

“I have been alerted. Let me check on it.

“If it is established, then I will make (the necessary) adjustments, as I have made with the chief of Keda (Kedah Regional Development Authority),” he told reporters.

On April 10, Anwar said the appointment of Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim as Keda chairman will be reviewed.

“I have discussed with Umno president Zahid (Ahmad Zahid Hamidi). I have not sent out the letter as there is no appointment yet,” he said.

Zahid previously named Azeez as the new Keda chairman.

Anwar also said the appointments of several Umno leaders to government-linked companies (GLCs) have been met with criticism from various parties.

He said the appointments of Umno leaders to GLCs are based on qualification and those appointed have to go through stringent checks.

According to reports, industry players and businesses have expressed concern over Rashdan’s appointment, as he is a deputy managing director of Gamuda Bhd, a company with a stake in the renewable energy business. – April 14, 2023.
