DEPUTY Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Dr Mahathir Mohamad will discuss a settlement to their defamation suits at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

Zahid had filed a suit against Dr Mahathir over the latter’s claim he had used his position to influence the former prime minister to intervene in his case, which is still ongoing in court.

Meanwhile Dr Mahathir has filed a suit against Zahid for allegedly defaming him in relation to the use of the name “kutty”.

Lawyer Shahrul Fazli Kamarulzaman, who is representing Zahid, said the suggestion was made during online case management proceedings held before deputy registrar Nor Afidah Idris today.

“The court has fixed July 14 for another online case management to find out if the parties agree to mediate for both defamation suits,” he said.

Lawyer Mior Nor Haidir Suhaimi, who appeared for Dr Mahathir, said if the parties fail to reach a settlement, the defamation suits would continue to be heard.

The court had earlier fixed November 6 to 9 to hear Zahid’s suit against Dr Mahathir, while Dr Mahathir’s suit against Zahid is scheduled for four days from September 11. – Bernama, April 14, 2023.
