STATES that have not enacted an anti-party hopping law should get a move on, Bersih chairman Thomas Fann said today.

He said failure to do so would lead to political instability, loss of faith in the electoral process and loss of investor confidence.

“Political instability means people will have a lack of confidence in the government of the day, let it be whoever it is, because policies are uncertain with the change of government.

“So, investors or businesses who want to set up businesses in these states would think twice about investing here,” Fann said at the launch of Bersih’s 2022 Annual Report today.

Johor, Malacca, Pahang, Terengganu, Kedah, Sabah have yet to introduce an anti-party hopping law.

Selangor, Penang, Perak, Perlis, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan and Sarawak have enacted laws to prevent lawmakers from jumping from one party to another.
