INVESTMENT, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz has been appointed treasurer of Selangor Umno. 

The Selangor Umno liaison committee, in a statement, said its chairman Megat Zulkarnain Omardin also appointed Abdul Mutalif Abdul Rahim as the liaison secretary and Mohd Zaidi Md Zain as information head. 

The appointments were made at the first meeting of the State Umno liaison committee yesterday. 

According to the statement, a stand was reached by Selangor Umno at the meeting to continue to support the unity government and to commit to ensuring cooperation for the sake of the country’s stability. 

It also said Selangor Umno would set up a state-level unity government committee to hold joint programmes with the state government leadership. 

Besides that, Selangor Umno said it would continue negotiations with Selangor Pakatan Harapan to determine the distribution of seats for the coming state election. 

The meeting also unanimously agreed to request top leadership to defend former Umno president Najib Tun Razak, who was serving jail time, because of his contributions to the country, and a memorandum was signed to that effect. – Bernama, April 12, 2023.
