COMMUNICATIONS and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said he hopes the postponement in gazetting the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2040 will provide space for the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to listen and respond to the people’s views.

The Lembah Pantai MP said this is important to ensure the city’s policy planning considers the voices of various parties, including its residents’ associations.

“This is important to ensure sustainable development and that no community feels its voice is ignored… I think previously the people of Kuala Lumpur felt they were not involved in the discussion process of Kuala Lumpur’s development.

“I also think it is fair for DBKL to respond to residents’ associations and non-governmental organisations (regarding the proposal) who told me they provided their views but received no feedback,” he said after participating in making bubur lambuk in the Kampung Kerinchi People’s Housing Project in Kuala Lumpur today.

Fahmi said he will examine the plan in his capacity as an MP in Kuala Lumpur to ensure it was developed in line with the humane element contained in the Madani principles introduced by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Fahmi said the engagement of all Kuala Lumpur MPs regarding the matter is underway, adding that one of his targets is to maintain some residential areas from being turned into commercial spots.

Yesterday, Anwar said the gazette of the structure plan is postponed to May 31 to allow DBKL to hold further engagement sessions with stakeholders to obtain appropriate feedback.

In another development, Fahmi said he will discuss with DBKL and the Local Government Development Ministry the “chronic” issue of faulty lifts in private housing areas not under DBKL’s jurisdiction, such as low-cost flats. – Bernama, April 9, 2023.
