JOHOR police have denied allegations that they intentionally paraded a minor in front of the press during her remand application at the magistrate’s court in Seri Alam, following her arrest with a man over a social media video allegedly of them having sex in a car.

Seri Alam police chief Mohd Sohaimi Ishak defended his men, saying they acted professionally throughout the process by escorting the suspects to the court complex.

“Throughout the remand process, no one from the Seri Alam police made arrangements to allow the media or other parties to be present at the court complex for photography or video recording,” he said in a statement today.

“The couple were transported together with suspects from other cases to the magistrate’s court here in an official police vehicle,” he added.

Yesterday, Muda slammed the police after photos were taken of the couple being escorted out of a police truck handcuffed and wearing lock-up overalls.

Muda human rights bureau director Dobby Chew called on the media to promptly remove any explicit images identifying the two and urged the public to stop sharing any images of them online.

Yesterday, Magistrate Noorfazlin Hamdan approved a two-day remand application by Seri Alam police for further investigations under section 377D of the penal code for gross indecency.

The couple were released on police bail at 4pm yesterday, pending investigations.

Gross indecency carries the possibility of a two-year prison sentence upon conviction.

The couple were arrested on Thursday after a 23-second video was uploaded to social media, supposedly of them having sex a car. – April 8, 2023.
