FAISAL Hamzah, the 39-year-old son of opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin, has been charged with issuing fake invoices in selling cooking oil to a local retailer, business portal The Edge Markets reported.

The invoices were found to be fake after Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry officers raided Rimba Merpati Sdn Bhd, of which Faisal is a director, on August 12 last year.

Rimba Merpati holds a wholesale licence for cooking oil.

Faisal, who was jointly charged in the Seremban sessions court with fellow director Azizul Abdul Halim, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

They were charged under section 8(4) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961. The price of cooking oil is controlled by the government under the act.

Both were also charged with possession of cooking oil exceeding the limit of 50 tonnes at the company in Sinar Andalas, Senawang – an offence under regulation 9(1) of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974, punishable under section 22(2) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

They claimed trial to the second charge as well. – April 5, 2023.
