THE Kuala Lumpur High Court today imposed a RM20,000 fine on Muslim convert Muhammad Nagahswaran Muniandy, the former husband of Loh Siew Hong, in default two weeks’ jail, for contempt of court.

Judge Evrol Mariette Peters made the decision after finding Nagahswaran had interfered with the administration of justice.

The judge gave Nagahswaran 14 days to settle the fine.

Loh’s lawyer, J. Gunamalar, said the judge also ordered Nagahswaran to pay her client RM6,000 in costs.

On September 20, the High Court granted an ex-parte application for leave for Loh to initiate committal proceedings against her ex-husband, who has been accused of abducting their three children and registering them as Muslim converts in 2019 without her consent.

Justice Evrol said there was a court order that granted Loh sole custody over her children on March 31, 2019, which she claimed was violated by Nagahswaran.

On February 21 last year, Loh was finally reunited with her children after the High Court granted her a writ of habeas corpus for an immediate release of her three children from alleged unlawful detention.

The children, born Hindus, were converted to Islam by the Perlis religious authorities allegedly following the unilateral consent of their father. – April 5, 2023.
