AB Rauf Yusoh is Barisan Nasional’s (BN) choice for the Malacca chief minister’s post, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.
At a press conference in the Dewan Rakyat, the BN chairman said he had submitted the Tanjung Bidara assemblyman’s name to Malacca governor Mohd Ali Rustam.
Zahid announced last night that incumbent Sulaiman Ali had quit as chief minister.
It has been speculated since the Malacca elections in November that Rauf would be the new chief minister, replacing Sulaiman.
However, after the polls, Sulaiman returned to helm the state government.
On Monday, Zahid, who is also deputy prime minister, said Malacca may witness the formation of a unity government.
“InsyaAllah, in Malacca, a Madani (unity) government has not been formed… but it’s heading in that direction,” he said.
In the Malacca elections, BN secured a two-thirds majority, winning 21 of the 28 seats in the state assembly.
Earlier today, state secretary Zaidi Johari said the swearing-in ceremony will be held at 3pm tomorrow, at the main hall of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri’s office in Ayer Keroh. – March 30, 2023.
