ISSUES on foreign labour and the original extent of the Malay reserve land in the peninsula are on the Dewan Rakyat agenda today.

The Order Paper stated Chow Kon Yeow (Batu Kawan-PH) will pose a question to the human resources minister seeking the list of all the ongoing negotiations, completed ones and those still in the process, with potential countries to supply labour to the country.

The question will be raised during the oral question and answer session. Chow also wants to know the number of workers expected to be brought in and the length of time needed to overcome the current labour shortage.

Mohd Shafie Apdal (Semporna-Warisan) will also ask the human resources minister on whether the government will formulate a clear, concrete and consistent policy in tackling the problem of labour shortage, while at the same time ensuring the availability of jobs for Malaysians and preventing the influx of foreigners, especially illegal immigrants.

Dr Ismail Abd Muttalib (Maran-PN) will ask the natural resources, environment and climate change minister on the original size of Malay reserve land in states where the area is decreasing and the government’s plan to overcome the problem.

Meanwhile, Hasni Mohammad (Simpang Renggam-BN) will also ask the same minister on the country’s progress to be a carbon-neutral country by 2050, which is also contained in the 12th Malaysia Plan.

The question and answer session will be followed by the tabling of the Sexual Offences Against Children (Amendment) Bill 2023 for second reading. – Bernama, March 29, 2023.
