THE Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) said the issues raised by Bandar Kuching lawmaker Dr Kelvin Yii regarding its training structure, has been resolved.

The national badminton governing body, in a statement, said Yii had contacted BAM president Mohamad Norza Zakaria to seek an explanation about BAM’s training programme.

“YB (Yii) clarified that his views were taken out of context. He was only giving advice to a few parents with regard to their children’s future.

“Following their discussion today (yesterday) Tan Sri Norza and Dr Kelvin consider the matter resolved,” according to BAM’s statement posted on social media last night.

Yesterday, the DayakDaily news portal reported that Yii warned children and parents to think twice before pursuing their badminton dream with BAM, claiming that many senior and junior shuttlers received termination for non-performance.

He was quoted as saying those who chose to stop training BAM would have to pay RM30,000 in compensation, which he said doesn’t protect the interest of the players. – Bernama, March 28, 2023.
