DR Mahathir Mohamad once again urged Malays to reject Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s unity government as it has failed to protect them.

In continuing his criticism against the government, the two-time former prime minister also said Malays lost everything after he resigned from office following the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government in February 2020.

“I am complaining now because the Malays lost everything after I resigned as prime minister.

“Indeed, the Malays became so poor after I was no longer the prime minister,” he said on social media.

The 97-year-old former Langkawi lawmaker said he wanted to hold a “Malay Proclamation” gathering to rally the community into realising the issues they are facing.

He however claimed the gathering was obstructed by certain parties, and called it a betrayal of a promise in the Federal Constitution.

He also hit out at Umno for no longer holding on to its goals of protecting the Malays.

“That is why other parties are needed to protect the rights of the Malays and other Bumiputera,” he added.

He said these were reasons for Malays to oppose the government led by Anwar.

He further urged Anwar to show proof he and his children had become rich during his two tenures as the prime minister.

This is after Anwar previously said Dr Mahathir should not be moaning about the losses suffered by the Malay community, and alluded that Dr Mahathir and his children had benefited financially from his time as the prime minister.

Last week, Dr Mahathir claimed the government was biased against the Malays by discouraging talks on race and religion.

He was to have been the main guest at the Malay Proclamation gathering but the event was cancelled after the organisers failed to secure a venue three times.

Dr Mahathir alleged Anwar was behind the cancellation of the bookings of the venues. – March 27, 2023.
