Number of Batu Pahat flood evacuees down to 141

THE number of flood evacuees in Batu Pahat, Johor fell to 141 as of 4pm today compared with 263 reported this morning following the closure of two temporary evacuation centres in the district.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (JBPN), the two relief centres are at SJKC Hua Min and Sekolah Agama Seri Comel. Both centres were closed at 4pm today.

Two relief centres in the district are still in operation and providing shelter to 37 families – Yong Peng community hall (79 people) and SK Seri Medan (62 people).

“Areas affected by the floods in Yong Peng include Kampung Parit Lapis Bangas, Kampung Jalan Lama, Taman Melur, Kampung Parit Amil and Taman Desa Suria.

“Meanwhile, in Sri Medan, Parit Yusof, Parit Haji Ahmad, Parit Warijo, Parit Bangas, Parit Sendayun and Parit Seri Pasir are still affected by floods,” it said in a statement today.

It also said that Sungai Bekok at Bekok Dam recorded alert level readings at 18.95m while 10 districts state-wide are expected to experience rain this evening. – Bernama, March 25, 2023.
