POLICE have ordered the Privacy Tun Razak nightclub to call off a show featuring Thai men in lingerie for its opening ceremony next week, said Ashari Abu Samah.

The Wangsa Maju district police chief said officers met with the club representatives this afternoon, issued its management with a warning and told the management to call off the show.

“The organiser and club management have agreed to comply with the order to cancel it, and no such programme or activity will be conducted. 

“Police will continuously monitor the premises and we will take action should there be any violation of the law,” he said in a statement today. 

He advised the public not to organise any activity that is against the law and is a threat to public security. 

Earlier, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail told Privacy Tun Razak to call off its “Thai Hot Guy” show featuring Thai men in lingerie for its opening ceremony next week to respect the holy month of Ramadan.

He said event organisers and venues should not host shows deemed insensitive and indecent, especially during the fasting month, which starts tomorrow.

“It is best for such events not to be continued because it could cause uneasiness. This is because Muslims worldwide will be welcoming Ramadan (tomorrow).

“There must be mutual respect from everyone living in a multicultural society. They need to be aware of the certain sensitivities of respective communities,” he told a press conference today after the ministry’s monthly gathering.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) has been instructed to investigate the “Thai Hot Guy” event. 

Religious Affairs Minister Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said the event is contrary to Islamic teachings and moral values of the community. 

“As Muslims will be welcoming the holy month of Ramadan, the organisation of the event is highly irresponsible,” he said in a statement today
