JAILED former prime minister Najib Razak has been admitted to Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) for treatment, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.
He added that Najib was transferred to hospital from Kajang Prison after obtaining permission from the Prison Department.
“This is a normal request. I was informed by prison director-general that Najib was taken to hospital for treatment,” Saifuddin told reporters in Putrajaya today.
However, he did not state for how long the disgraced former politician would remain in hospital.
It was reported earlier that Najib was admitted on Friday for a lung infection, while Free Malaysia Today reported today that he was discharged earlier today.
The news portal quoted a source saying that the former Pekan MP had been suffering from a lung infection for about two weeks.
“He has had a bad lung infection and was treated with intravenous antibiotics for a few days,” the source said.
Najib is seven months into a 12-year prison sentence for his role in the misappropriation of RM42 million of SRC International funds. He was also fined RM210 million, which he has yet to pay. – March 22, 2023.
