THE Human Resources Ministry is ready to take responsibility for restructuring Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes.
“We see there are currently 12 ministries involved with TVET and it is co-ordinated by national TVET council, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“There are suggestions – including from the Youth and Sports Ministry – for the TVET programme to be given to another ministry.
“We are willing to consider it, if anyone wants to give it to us,” Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar said in Kuala Lumpur today, following Zahid’s statement on the proposal to move the National Youth Skills Institute (IKBN) to the Human Resource Ministry.
So far, there are 22 IKBN centres nationwide, which aim to give youths technical skills.
Meanwhile, Sivakumar called on industries to prepare for changes from a health and safety perspective.
He said jobs in the future will be more focused on technology usage, which will affect people’s physical and mental well-being.
“Experts believe this is due to several factors: climate change, technological revolution, demographic change due to global ageing, the urbanisation process, geopolitical instability and increased awareness about mental health, human rights and the environment,” he said. – Bernama, March 21, 2023.
