8,000 people displaced by floods in Batu Pahat

AUTHORITIES in Johor say 7,972 people were in flood relief centres as of 8pm today, down from 8,650 at 4pm, prompting the closure of three temporary relief centres.

The State disaster management committee (SDMC) said the centres at SA Kangkar Merlimau, SK Air Hitam and Felcra Sri Wangi were closed.

The SDMC said this leaves 44 centres open tonight, including SK Seri Aman (552 people), SJKC Li Chun (522) and Dewan Orang Ramai Parit Yaani (437).

A total of three rivers in Batu Pahat are still at the warning level: Empangan Bekok in Sungai Bekok (19.1m), Empangan Sembrong in Sungai Sembrong (11.3m) and Sungai Senggarang in Senggarang (3.28 m).

While Johor Baru is set to experience rain, the weather is forecast to be good in Kluang and cloudy in eight districts tonight. – Bernama, March 20, 2023.
