THE Home Ministry will leave it to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate ministry officers detained during a sukuk (Islamic bond) misappropriation case.

Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the MACC should be given ample space to carry out its responsibilities in accordance with the law.

“The MACC is free to carry out any investigation that is appropriate. I lead the Home Ministry, while the (investigation) is the MACC’s area of duty and responsibility,” he said in Kuala Lumpur today.

On Wednesday, the MACC arrested four people – including the company’s director and chief financial officer – to assist in the investigation into irregularities in the RM596 million sukuk issued for registration, recruitment and biometric data storage of foreign workers.

The suspects, aged between 40 and 55, were detained at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.

Meanwhile, Saifuddin said police welfare is an ongoing effort and not seasonal or just in conjunction with Police Day.

“In terms of living comfort, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced a joint allocation of RM500 million with the Defence Ministry to upgrade residences.

“Other things, such as salary revision, is an ongoing effort. Recently the Public Service Department approved an allowance for the special action unit,” he said. – Bernama, March 20, 2023.
