PERAK Umno has sacked 17 members who sabotaged the party by committing various wrongdoings during the general election last November.
Perak Umno liaison committee chairman Saarani Mohamad said the 17, who were from the Larut Umno division, were among more than 50 investigated by the party’s disciplinary board.
He said the board has yet to decide on the fate of the others, who are from other divisions.
“During the election campaigning period, some were carrying the opponent parties’ flags or campaigning for the opponents,” he said today.
“We have sent a report to the Umno disciplinary board at the state and central levels. Some of them have been sacked.
“We will wait for the party management committee to announce its decision on the others.”
Saarani was commenting on yesterday’s media report that acts of sabotage were identified as one of the main causes of Umno’s heavy defeat in Perak in the general election, after officiating at the state-level Women’s Day celebrations in Ipoh. – Bernama, March 19, 2023.
