FORMER Johor menteri besar Hasni Mohammad’s 22-year tenure as the Pontian Umno division chief came to an end at the hands of Ahmad Maslan yesterday.

Ahmad, who is also Umno secretary-general and deputy finance minister, defeated Hasni after gaining 388 votes to Hasni’s 291.

Ahmad is a loyalist of party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, while Hasni has been continuously sidelined by the party leadership.

Hasni lost his position as state menteri bear despite being Barisan Nasional’s poster boy in the state polls.

Earlier this year, Umno leadership removed him as state party leader.

He is currently Simpang Renggam MP and Benut assemblyman. – March 19, 2023.
