THE results of the Umno’s Supreme Council elections are expected to be known tonight, said party secretary-general Ahmad Maslan.
“We expect to get the results at night. We hope to get a clear picture by midnight (at the latest).
“This is the expectation, but small divisions involving few delegates may get their results in the afternoon. In the case of Pontian, the number of delegates is big with 690 people, so it may take some time to be completed,” he said.
Ahmad told reporters this after voting in the division’s elections at Dewan Jubli Intan Sultan Ibrahim in Pontian today.
The Pontian Umno deputy chief said 189 of the 191 divisions throughout the country are conducting party elections today.
“Only two Umno divisions – Tanah Merah in Kelantan and Kota Kinabalu in Sabah – are not holding elections because they have been suspended for certain reasons,” he said.
The Umno polls began on February 1 with annual branch meetings and elections, including for the Wanita, Youth and Puteri movements.
They were followed by elections for the Wanita, Youth and Puteri divisions.
The party polls end today with divisional and Supreme Council elections, including for the three vice-presidential posts. – Bernama, March 18, 2023.
