THE Women, Family and Community Development Ministry said it is pushing for access to pornography websites to be blocked in an effort to combat child sexual crimes.
Its deputy minister, Aiman Athirah Sabu, said there needs to be heightened attention and awareness on child sexual crimes in the community.
“This happens because of social media and the influence of the internet. Sometimes it’s because of the uncontrolled use of the internet to view pornography websites.
“Stern action needs to be taken to directly block pornography websites as they can be accessed at any time,” she said after officiating the Kelantan International Women’s Day 2023 Carnival in Tunjong today.
She said this when commenting on a statement by Bukit Aman CID director Abdul Jalil Hassan yesterday that sexual crimes against children and women in the country increased to 12,890 cases last year from to 11,092 cases in 2020.
“The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry is working with the police, the Communications and Digital Ministry, the Communications and Multimedia Commission and several other agencies to examine the factors behind why the crime is rampant, said Aiman. – Bernama, March 17, 2023.
