UMNO is no longer relevant for Malays after agreeing to work with Pakatan Harapan (PH), Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said today.

Bersatu on the other hand, the Pagoh MP said, managed to replace Umno after in winning 31 parliamentary seats compared to Umno’s 26, last November.

“Now, our party is bigger than Umno. In just seven years, Bersatu has succeeded in overcoming Umno, which has now reached the age of 77.

“We are no longer a snake, and Umno is no longer a dragon.

“Umno is no longer a party that can be expected to carry this trust. Umno is now a minority party in a political coalition dominated by PH, what else can be expected from Umno.

“For us and the majority of Malays, this is the end of Umno’s life,” Muhyiddin said, while delivering a policy speech at the party’s annual general assembly, at Menara PGRM, Kuala Lumpur, this morning.

The Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman said Umno has now abandoned its original struggle to defend the rights of Malays.

“Democracy has also died in Umno, the party constitution was violated in such a way simply to protect the interests of one individual.

“The purpose of the party has also changed from protecting the interests of Malays and Bumiputeras, to protecting the interests of individuals.

“This individual is also protected by the leadership of PH government with the interest of defending PH’s power, this individual must be ensured to continue to dominate Umno because with this individual’s control over Umno, PH will continue to be in power,” Muhyiddin said, referring to Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. – March 12, 2023.
