DELEGATES of the Bersatu annual general assembly has unanimously endorsed a motion to reject party president Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation, after he was charged with abuse of power and corruption on Friday.

Around 1,000 attendees supported the special motion tabled by deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu at the party’s fifth annual general meeting today.

“This is the time for us to be in solidarity against tyranny.

“We realise that without Muhyiddin, the party won’t exist. The party’s struggle is based on his ideology, and our success is because of the rakyat’s confidence in him,” he said.

Faizal added that Muhyiddin had sacrifice much for the party.

“He has gone through many challenges. He was sacked previously, pressured to relinquish his position, and now, he is charged in court.

“Abah has always been with us. Now is the time for us to be with him.”

Secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin also said the Pagoh lawmaker has been a source of inspiration for Bersatu.

“His sincerity is what encouraged the people to give their mandate to Perikatan Nasional in the last general election.

“Our struggle is not yet over. There’s still a long way to go, this is just the beginning. We must defend Muhyiddin with all we have,” he said.

Last night, the Bersatu supreme council rejected Muhyiddin’s resignation.

In a statement, Hamzah said the decision was made as the former prime minister was being charged as Bersatu president and not in his personal capacity.

On Friday, Muhyiddin was charged with four counts of abuse of power and two counts of money laundering amounting to RM232.5 million. – Bernama, March 12, 2023. – March 12, 2023.
