WAN Saiful Wan Jan is confident that Perikatan Nasional component party leaders want Muhyiddin Yassin to continue as the coalition’s chairman after he was slapped with corruption and abuse of power charges.

The Bersatu supreme council member said the circumstances that led to him quitting as information chief were different from the Pagoh lawmaker’s predicament.

“I was appointed party information chief while he was elected (to the position of president) by party members.

“I had a responsibility to let go of my (party) duties,” Wan Saiful said on the sidelines of the party’s youth wing annual general meeting today.

Last month, Wan Saiful claimed trial to the charge of accepting almost RM7 million in kickbacks in connection with the Jana Wibawa programme.

He was also charged with soliciting RM232 million in bribes in relation to the same programme to help highly placed Bumiputera contractors affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

He quit his post soon after as he wanted to be different from others in the same position.
