Tunku Ismail said in a statement that it is time for time to step down after the national team’s ranking fell three places recently.

“Recently, the national team’s ranking fell three place and this is a very big failure. With that being said, I think it is time that the president of FAM leave football,” the Johor crown price said.

Tunku Ismail also took the opportunity to list down his achievements as FAM president, saying he had managed to restructure local football to become less dependent on government funding.

He also said the U23, U19, and U16 teams have made history by representing Malaysia in “the highest level in Asia”.

“Thank you for everything, and it has been an honour to serve Malaysian football. Good luck.”

He took up the post on March 24, 2017, almost exactly a year ago. – March 15, 2018.

  • Bravo!

A man of principle Your Excellency.

But your quest is not over Sir.

You have been refreshing beacon we hoped will lift us out of the dark ages of Malaysian football.

It took Presidents of FAM very little time to junk the standings of our Tigers. And they continued to directly or indirectly allow the decline to worsen for more than 30 years.

Your hands-on approach is biting those apple polishers.

Kick the asses you have to, you have to. But we have to set a target of below the years it took our administrators to get it where it is today.

Please continue your journey. At the destination we shall meet.

  • I can’t imagine what sort of principle is involved in throwing in the towel at the first sign of negativity. But then Malaysian principles have always been ‘flexible’. The CP is behaving like a spoiled brat who fails to get his own way all the time
