THE government’s decision to initiate criminal cases against Muhyiddin Yassin has resulted in Bersatu members becoming stronger and more united, party deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu said.

He said he observed this during the party’s general assembly, which began today.

“It changed the mood of the assembly with what had happened to our president. It has brought us together and stronger at all levels,” he said at a press conference at Menara Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia this afternoon.

Muhyiddin, who is also Pagoh MP, was charged this morning on six counts of abuse of power and money laundering charges.

He is alleged to have received RM200 million, RM1 million, RM19.5 million and RM12 million in bribes for his party Bersatu.

He claimed trial and is out on a RM2 million bail.

He is expected to face a fresh charge at the Shah Alam High Court on Monday.

Faizal said he is confident there will not be any division in the party following the charges against Muhyiddin.

“What happened has brought us closer,” he said.

He said he expects party delegates to show their support for Muhyiddin during the annual meeting, which will end Sunday. – March 10, 2023.
