LIM Guan Eng has threatened to sue Muhyiddin Yassin for claiming that he had cancelled the tax exemption given to Albukhary Foundation during his time as finance minister.
The DAP national chairman challenged Muhyiddin – who faced corruption and money laundering charges today – to provide evidence to back his claims.
“I want to state that I have never issued any specific instructions to cancel the tax exemption given by the Barisan Nasional government to Albukhary Foundation, which is headed by Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary.
“Can Muhyiddin show any letters where I issued instructions as finance minister to cancel the tax exemption for Albukhary Foundation?
“If he fails to do so, I will get legal advice on Muhyiddin’s malicious lies against me, seeing as it also involves a corruption charge which will be tried in court in future,” Lim said in a statement.
Muhyiddin today was charged with two counts of money laundering, where he was alleged to have received RM195 million from Bukhary Equity, which was deposited into Bersatu’s CIMB account.
Bukhary Equity is linked to Albukhary Foundation.
Yesterday, the Pagoh MP said among the issues raised by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission during his questioning was the appeal against the cancellation of the tax exemption granted to Albukhary Foundation.
He said the tax exemption was called off by then finance minister Lim after Pakatan Harapan (PH) came to power in 2018.
Muhyiddin said when he became prime minister after the PH government fell, Syed Mokhtar appealed to him to lift the cancellation. – March 10, 2023.
