ALL local authorities nationwide must focus on and address issues relating to urban or town planning to ensure a balanced development that meets the needs of city dwellers.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said past urban planning had weaknesses owing to its sole focus on development.

“We see, for example, the situation has gone out of control, the gap is so obvious as major towns are also congested with urban poor areas or slums. That shows our planning has weaknesses.

“We built beautiful buildings, mega projects because they were needed to develop the country, but we forget the people also need proper housing. And when we want to build the houses for them, we found that costs of project and land had gone up,” he said when officiating at the Kuala Lumpur Garden Festival 2023 at Titiwangsa Lake Gardens today. – Bernama, March 9, 2023.
