BERSATU leaders and members have gathered at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters in Putrajaya to show their support for party president Muhyiddin Yassin.

The former prime minister has been summoned to the anti-graft agency’s office at 11am today to assist in an ongoing investigation.

Speculation is rife that Muhyiddin will be arrested and charged either later today or tomorrow.

MACC is investigating allegations that chosen contractors allegedly deposited RM300 million in Perikatan Nasional lynchpin party Bersatu’s account before the last general election.

Muhyiddin has denied this, adding that he is a victim of political slander by those intending to smear his reputation. He has also threatened to take legal action against his accusers.

Last week, two Bersatu leaders faced charges for graft.

Former Bersatu information chief and Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan and Segambut Bersatu deputy chief Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad were alleged to have collected funds from the awarding of projects in connection with the Jana Wibawa scheme during Muhyiddin’s tenure as the eighth prime minister.

This morning, party leaders, including Azmin Ali, were seen among the group of people at MACC headquarters.

Some wore T-shirts showing their support for Muhyiddin.

Meanwhile, Bersatu information chief Razali Idris said the Pagoh MP may be arrested today.

“Muhyiddin has been told to go to the MACC headquarters… and we expect him to be arrested (today) and charged in court tomorrow,” Razali told reporters gathered outside the building.

“We consider this inhumane as the party is having its elections tomorrow, and parliament is also in session,” he said.

In another development, Bersatu sources said the party decided last night to mobilise support for its president who is expected to be arrested and charged by the MACC.

All Bersatu and Perikatan National lawmakers had been told to gather and throw their support behind Muhyiddin in Putrajaya today.

Later tonight, prayers will be held in Taman Melewar in Gombak, Selangor, followed by a ceramah.

The party is also said to be mulling the possibility of turning its annual meeting this weekend into a mega-gathering in support of Muhyiddin. – March 9, 2023.
