FORMER prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin has dismissed reports of his arrest but says he has been summoned to the office of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at 11am tomorrow.

In a brief statement, the Bersatu chairman refuted a news report that he had been arrested at a golf course today.

“Today, I attended a Bersatu meeting in relation to the party’s annual general assembly, which will begin on Friday,” he said in a short statement posted on Facebook.

The brief post ended feverish speculation on social media despite an aide’s statement that the Pagoh lawmaker was picked up by the anti-graft agency.

Muhyiddin’s press secretary, Hafiz Abdul Halim, had earlier refuted the report.

“Not true. He was not arrested today,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

Speculation on his impending arrest grew after two of his party members were charged for graft last week.

Former Bersatu information chief and Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan and Segambut Bersatu deputy chief Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad were charged with corruption.

They are alleged to have collected funds from the awarding of projects during Muhyiddin’s tenure as the eighth prime minister.

MACC is currently investigating allegations that chosen contractors allegedly deposited RM300 million in Perikatan Nasional lynchpin party Bersatu’s account before the last general election.

Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president, has denied this, and says he is a victim of political slander by those intending to smear his reputation. He has also threatened to sue his accusers. – March 8, 2023.
