MUHYIDDIN Yassin has not been arrested, an aide said as speculation mounts that the former prime minister is next in line to be charged in a corruption probe.

A news portal has reported that he was arrested at a golf course while others have hinted that a senior Perikatan Nasional leader will be arrested and charged in court tomorrow.

Two Bersatu politicians have been arrested and charged in recent weeks.

Muhyiddin’s press secretary, Hafiz Abdul Halim, today refuted the report.

“Not true. He was not arrested today,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

The Malaysian Insight has contacted the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), but at the time of writing, the anti-graft agency has kept mum.

According to several reports from other sites quoting sources, MACC will charge Muhyiddin with corruption under the MACC Act 2009 tomorrow.

However, the exact charges and details remained sketchy.

There was speculation early this week that MACC had raided residences linked to Muhyiddin.

But top MACC officials have remained tight-lipped.

MACC is currently investigating allegations that chosen contractors allegedly deposited RM300 million in PN lynchpin party Bersatu’s account before the November general election.

Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president, has denied this, crying political slander by those intending to smear his reputation as a former prime minister. He has also threatened to take those making such statements to court.

Last week, former Bersatu information chief and Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan and Segambut Bersatu deputy chief Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad were charged with corruption.

They are alleged to have collected funds from the award of projects during Muhyiddin’s tenure as the eighth prime minister. – March 8, 2023
